------------------------ INTRODUCTION ------------------------ Lesser Passwords is a simple utility for storing lists of passwords. It was created because I'm starting to get annoyed at how many websites require you to setup personalized accounts with them. It's especially a problem if your browser isn't using cookies -- seems like I'm endlessly logging into sites these days. LP helps manage the problem by recording your own list of passwords, then giving easy access to the parameters necessary to log into a site. By 'easy access,' I mean that you are provided with convenient buttons that place text you've entered into the paste buffer, for quick pasting into the login page of a website. WARNING: It's called LESSER Passwords on purpose. The password file it stores is unencrypted, plain ASCII text. (Incidentally, the file is stored in /home/config/settings/AngryRedPlanet/LesserPasswords/state). Obviously, you shouldn't be using this for any passwords that give access to financial information if you are the least bit concerned about the security of your computer. ------------------------ INSTRUCTIONS ------------------------ Start Lesser Passwords. It opens up with no entries registered, so create a new one with the 'Add' button. This opens the Add Entry window. The Name field will be the name that occurs in the Entries list in the Lesser Passwords window. The URL will be displayed in a button in the right-hand pane of the Lesser Passwords window, whenever this particular entry is selected. Clicking on this button will open the relevant website (be sure to use http://, ftp://, etc. as appropriate, or NetPositive (at least, and maybe Opera too) won't open the website. The Key / Value fields must be entered together. The key will be used as the label for a button below the URL button. The value will be copied into the paste buffer whenever that button is clicked. A very common key / value pair (for me) would be key of 'User ID' value of 'hackborn'. Now that you've made an entry, click OK, then close Lesser Passwords. Start it up again, and you see the entry is retained. I keep Lesser Passwords accessible from the Applications folder of the Be menu for quick access to passwords. ------------------------ DISCLAIMER ------------------------ Neither Eric Hackborn nor Angry Red Planet is responsible in any way for any damage done to anything in your life, be it data loss, hair loss, sterility, or any other conceivable negative occurrence, for the use and / or misuse of this product.
